Abstract

The application of the theories of cognitive psychology and Emotional Intelligence to instructional system is the modern view of education. In order to overcome the various problems in the educational system, psychological experts recommend that changes are brought about in the cognitive processes to enable children to develop deep understandings meaningfully and effectively. Students are too often being passive receptors of information(Oliver,1995) The teaching of critical thinking is important in the teaching of different Discipline curriculum(Beyer,1985).According to him, to live successfully in a democracy, people must be able to think critically and be emotionally stable in order to make sound decisions about personal and civic Twenty first century demands for more expanded role and expect teachers to take up more responsibilities, such as preparing curriculum , action researchers, lead team and act as staff development facilitators. This shows that the multitrasking roles have made a great change in the traditional conception of classroom teaching. As a result, a much expanded, and multidimensional conception of Teacher Effectiveness that fit in to calculate effectiveness across different roles, is required; the current approach focusing on classroom instruction is very limited and has to be changed, and prioritized.
